80G Registration

Want your donors to get tax benefits for supporting your cause? That’s where 80G registration comes in! It allows NGOs, trusts, and Section 8 companies to offer donation tax exemptions to contributors under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act. It is a certification provided by the Income Tax Department of India that allows donors to claim tax deductions on the donations they make to registered NGOs, trusts, or Section 8 companies. When an organization is granted an 80G certificate, it becomes more attractive to donors, as contributions made are eligible for tax exemption under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act. This not only boosts fundraising potential but also builds credibility and trust with supporters.

Anonymous donations are generally not allowed for 80G exemption. NGOs must maintain records of donors’ identities.

No, donations to Indian NGOs from foreign sources cannot be claimed for deduction under 80G by the foreign donor. Only donations made by Indian taxpayers to Indian 80G-registered organizations are eligible for deduction.

Most donations qualify for 50% exemption, but some notified funds (like PM-CARES) allow 100% exemption with or without restriction limits.

NGOs must issue a receipt/certificate to donors containing details such as the NGO’s name and address, registration number under 80G, validity period, amount donated, and the donor’s name. This certificate is essential for donors to claim tax benefits under 80G.
