DRUG LICENSE

A Drug License is a mandatory legal authorization under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 in India. It permits individuals, pharmacies, wholesalers, and pharmaceutical companies to legally manufacture, distribute, and sell medicines. Without this license, no business can operate in the pharmaceutical sector.

The primary purpose of a drug license is to safeguard public health. It ensures that medicines available in the market are safe, effective, and authentic. By regulating the handling, storage, and distribution of drugs, the license helps maintain quality standards across the supply chain.

A drug license also allows regulatory authorities to inspect and monitor businesses. This helps prevent the circulation of counterfeit, unauthorized, or substandard medicines, thereby protecting patients and strengthening trust in the healthcare system.
